The AIM-120 AMRAAM (Advanced Medium Range Air to Air Missile, pronounced "am-ram") is the primary BVR air-to-air missile used by the F-16 in Falcon 4. It is used to engage targets at a far greater range than is possible with the AIM-9 or the cannon. The AIM-120 uses a combination of active and passive tracking, and is not completely autonomous after firing - the pilot must maintain a missile lock until the missile's internal radar can lock onto the target.
