Sensor of Interest

The Sensor of Interest (SOI) is used to refer to the display that is accepting inputs from the pilot, or that is controlling the currently selected weapon system. The SOI can be either an MFD page or the HUD. If the SOI is an MFD page, that page will have a green border around it to signify that it is the SOI. For example, in the image below, the FCR is the active targeting sensor, so it has a green border around it and is actively accepting pilot input from the cursor control.

If a weapon targeting sensor is NOT the SOI, the green border will disappear and NOT SOI will be superimposed on the display. For example, in the image below, the FCR has been used to lock on to the target for a JDAM strike. The pilot should now switch to the TGP display, since the FCR doesn't have any more useful information for the pilot. NOT SOI is displayed to ensure that the pilot is not wasting time looking at targeting displays which do not contain any useful information for the selected weapon system.

The SOI can be toggled between the active targeting sensor and the HSD by pressing down on the Display Management Switch. See the HSD page for more information about this.
